The Atlanta Braves and Boston Red Sox will play game three of four on Wednesday night at Fenway Park.
The Braves have lost four of their last seven games, including the first two games of this series, and are barely holding onto first place in the NL East. The reason for the struggles in this series is a Braves pitching staff that has allowed 14 runs in the first two games. The Braves are 6-16 this season when allowing more than three runs. Offensively, Justin Upton has five hits in this series and B.J. Upton has doubled and scored a run in both games. Taking the mound is Gavin Floyd, who is 0-1 with a 2.49 ERA and has 24 strikeouts in 25.1 innings. Floyd is 7-0 with a 3.21 ERA in nine career games against the Red Sox.
USA TODAY Sports
The Red Sox have snapped a 10-game losing streak with back-to-back wins and have all of a sudden found their groove offensively. The Red Sox are 21-12 this season when scoring more than three runs and have produced 19 hits in this series. David Ortiz has five RBI in this series and A.J. Pierzynski has a six-game hitting streak, including four hits in this series. The Red Sox pitching is still inconsistent, but John Lackey will take the mound, and he’s 5-3 with a 3.58 ERA and has 59 strikeouts in 65.1 innings. This will be Lackey’s second career start against the Braves.
The Braves are 1-6 in their last 7 games as an underdog and 3-9 in their last 12 interleague road games. The Red Sox are 6-2 in Lackey's last 8 starts as a favorite and 9-4 in Lackey's last 13 starts as a home favorite. The Braves are 2-7 in the last 9 meetings vs. the Red Sox.
I don't trust the Braves as far as I can throw them at the moment. However, Floyd has killed the Red Sox in his career and overall, the Braves are the better team that the Red Sox. I'll take my chances with the plus money considering the value.
