The Kansas City Royals and the Houston Astros play game three of their series on Wednesday afternoon in KC.
The Kansas City Royals are moving in reverse as they lost their third game in a row falling to the Astros on Tuesday. Omar Infante, Alex Gordon, and Salvador Perez each had hits as the Royals failed to score on five hits. Starting pitcher Jeremy Guthrie allowed seven hits and a run while striking out five over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 2-4 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Royals start Danny Duffy who has lost three of his last four starts. For the season Duffy has allowed 20 hits and nine earned runs while striking out 21 over 31.1 innings for a 2-4 record and a 2.59 ERA.

The Houston Astros are starting to put things together as they won for the fourth consecutive game with their win on Tuesday. Alex Presley had three hits and Jason Castro and Robbie Grossman each had two hits as the Astros scored three runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Collin McHugh allowed five hits and struck out nine pitching 7.0 scoreless innings to get the win and go to 3-3 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Astros start Jarred Cosart who is coming off of a loss in his last start. For the season Cosart has allowed 49 hits and 27 earned runs while striking out 39 over 55.1 innings for a 3-4 record and a 4.39 ERA.
Kansas City is 2-6 in their last eight games, 1-5 against a right-handed starter, and 6-1 in Duffy’s last seven home starts. Houston is 18-35 against the AL Central, 25-66 in game three of series, and 1-4 in Cosart’s last five road starts. Houston is 2-6 in the last eight meetings of these two.
The Astros have gotten the best of this series but the Royals salvage a win here.
