The New York Yankees and the Minnesota Twins face off on Saturday in the Bronx for game two of their series.
The New York Yankees have had their share of troubles this season and we saw them once again on Friday as they fell to the Twins. Yangervis Solarte had two hits and Derek Jeter, Mark Teixeira, and Jacoby Ellsbury each had hits as the Yankees scored just one run on nine hits. Startingpitcher Vidal Nuno allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out six over 6.2 innings to take the los and fall to 1-2 for the season. For game two against Minnesota the Yankees start Masahiro Tanaka who has been outstanding in his first season in the U.S. For the season Tanaka has allowed 59 hits and 18 earned runs while striking out 79 over 70.2 innings for a 7-1 record and a 2.29 ERA.

The Minnesota Twins are on the rise and while they may not be ready to be contenders we saw once again on Friday that they can swing the bats. Josh Willingham, Oswaldo Arcia, and Trvor Plouffe each hit home runs as the Twins scored six runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Ricky Nolasco allowed seven hits and one run while striking out three over 6.0 innings to get the win and go to 3-5 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Twins start Kevin Correia who has lost three of his last four starts. For the season Correia has allowed 70 hits and 39 earned runs while striking out 31 over 55.1 innings for a 2-6 record and a 6.34 ERA.
New York is 2-6 against a team with a losing record, 3-9 in their last 11 home games, and 7-1 in Tanaka’s last eight starts. Minnesota is 3-6 in their last nine games, 10-21 in game three of a series, and 1-4 in Correia’s last five road starts. Minnesota is 15-39 in the last 54 meetings against the Yankees.
I look for the Yankees to bounce back in this one as they have a huge edge on the hill with Tanaka.
