The Miami Marlins and the Atlanta Braves face off on Sunday in Miami as they close out their series.
The Miami Marlins were tied for first place in the NL East but after dropping their last two games to the Braves they are two games back in the division. On Saturday Christian Yelich had three hits and Derek Dietrich and Adeiny Hechavarria each had two hits as the Marlins scored five runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Jacob Turner allowed seven hits and five runs while striking out four over 5.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 1-3 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Marlins start Nathan Eovaldi who has won his last two starts. For the season Eovaldi has allowed 68 hits and 25 earned runs while striking out 57 over 67 innings for a 4-2 record and a 3.36 ERA.

The Atlanta Braves are back alone in first place in the NL East as they got the win on Saturday in Miami. B.J. Upton, Tommy La Stella, and Gerald laird each had two hits as the Braves scored nine runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Ervin Santana allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out four over 6.0 innings to get the win to go to 5-2 for the season and Craig Kimbrel earned his 15th save. For Sunday’s game the Braves start Aaron Harang who has lost three of his last four decisions. For the season Harang has allowed 62 hits and 24 earned runs while striking out 71 over 65.2 innings for a 4-4 record and a 3.29 ERA.
Miami is 6-2 in game three of a series, 8-2 as home favorites, and 4-0 in Eovaldi’s last four home starts. Atlanta is 4-10 in their last 14 road games, 1-6 as a road underdog, and 4-0 in Harang’s last four starts in game three of a series. Atlanta is 42-18 in the last 60 meetings of these two.
These teams are much closer than public perception would make you believe and the marlins show us that once again here as they get the win.
