The Tampa Bay Rays battle instate rival the Miami Marlins in interleague action on Monday.

Tampa Bay has been struggling all season to score consistently and take some pressure off their rotation but it hasn't been a successful endevour. The Rays are in the midst of a six game slide following a 4-0 loss at Fenway Park on Sunday where the early struggles of Erik Bedard did them in. Bedard gave up three runs on five hits and four base on balls in just 4.1 frames to take the loss. The offense never got going on a five hit, two walk attack that never really threatened. Alex Cobb is scheduled to be on the mound in the series opener against the Marlins. Cobb saw his string of three straight shutouts end when he gave up six runs on nine hits in a 9-6 defeat at Toronto.

Despite losing Jose Fernandez for the remainder of 2014 the Marlins sit in the second position in the National League East. The Fish had a golden opportunity to pick up ground on first Atlanta in town for the weekend but instead were swept away after Sunday's 4-2 defeat. Nathan Eovaldi kept his team alive with a pair of runs scored on six hits through eight innings before Steve Cishek was charges with two 9th inning scores to lose it. The Fish mustered seven hits and five walks with Marcell Ozuna giving his team a second inning lead on a two run homer but they could generate nothing the rest of the way. Veteran left hander Randy Wolf makes just his secont start of the 2014 campaign when he faces Tampa Bay. Wolf absorbed a 7-1 loss in his first start with six runs plated (four earned) on nine hits in five innings.

Wolf is well past his prime so Cobb has the edge on the hill but will the Rays give him some runs to work with. Really not in love with this because I'm up against a team on the road with the pitching edge but little offense that is slumping and laying decent sized chalk? I'd rather take the better team at plus odds but again this is not a favorite of mine...
