The Tampa Bay Rays and Miami Marlins will play game two of four when they take the field Tuesday night.

The Rays have now lost seven straight games and have fallen 12 games below a .500 record. While the Rays pitching staff only allowed three runs in Monday’s loss, the lineup has produced two or fewer runs in five straight games. Of course, consistent offense has been a problem all season for the Rays, as they’re 8-25 when scoring three or less runs. Matt Joyce has struck out once in his last six games, but David DeJesus does have four extra-base hits in his last six games. Getting the nod is Chris Archer, who is 3-2 with a 4.00 ERA and has 59 strikeouts in 63 innings. This is Archer’s first career game against the Marlins.

Miami Marlins vs. Tampa Bay Rays MLB Pick, Odds, Prediction - 6/3/14

The Marlins snapped a three-game losing streak and improve to 21-11 at home this season. The Marlins have scored three or less runs in six of their last nine games and are 8-18 when scoring three or less runs. Giancarlo Stanton has scored six runs in as many games and Casey McGehee has two RBI in Monday’s win. The Marlins pitching staff has an ERA of 3.83. Getting the nod is Henderson Alvarez, who is 2-3 with a 2.97 ERA and has 40 strikeouts in 66.2 innings. Alvarez is 0-5 with a 6.28 ERA in five career starts against the Rays.

The Rays are 2-6 in Archer's last 8 starts as a road favorite and 12-5 in their last 17 interleague games as a favorite. The Marlins are 8-0 in their last 8 interleague games and 4-0 in Alvarez's last 4 home starts. The Rays are 27-9 in the last 36 meetings.

While Archer has been god awful against the Rays in his career, the Rays have been one of the worst teams in all of baseball lately. I'll take a Marlins team that's terrific at home for the even money.
