The Minnesota Twins and Milwaukee Brewers will play game two of a four-game series on Tuesday night.
The Twins have lost eight of their last 11 games and are three games below a .500 record. While the Twins pitching staff does have the 29th worst ERA in baseball, they’re not producing many runs during this embarrassing stretch. The Twins have scored three or fewer runs in eight of their last 12 games and are 3-20 on the season when that’s the case. Joe Mauer, however, has gotten on base at least once in eight of his last 10 games. Getting the nod is Samuel Deduno, who is 1-3 with a 3.86 ERA and has 35 strikeouts in 46.2 innings. This will be Deduno’s second career start against the Brewers.
USA TODAY Sports
The Brewers have won five of their last six games and continue to create distance in the NL Central. As has been the case for much of the season, the Brewers offense is tearing the cover off the ball, scoring six or more runs in seven of their last eight games. Mark Reynolds has four homers in his last 10 games and Carlos Gomez has nine RBI in his last 10 games. That type of offensive production goes well with a team ERA of 3.39. Yovani Gallardo gets the start, and he’s 3-3 with a 3.56 ERA and has 46 strikeouts in 65.2 innings. Gallardo is 2-1 with a 2.63 ERA in six career starts against the Twins.
The Twins are 10-22 in their last 32 during game 2 of a series and 4-14 in Deduno's last 18 starts vs. a team with a winning record. The Brewers are 41-16 in Gallardo's last 57 starts as a favorite and 35-16 in Gallardo's last 51 starts with 5 days of rest.
There's no way you can take the Twins with the way both of these teams have been playing. When you add Gallardo on the mound, it even increases the chances of a Brewers win. I don't like the juice, but if you think the price is far, Milwaukee is the play here.
