The Chicago Cubs will look to sweep the New York Mets when they meet Thursday night at Wrigley Field.
The Mets have split their last six games and have fallen three games below a .500 record. While the Mets haven’t played well in this series, their offense has improved considering they’ve scored four or more runs in eight of their last nine games. The Mets are 26-10 this season when scoring more than three runs. Lucas Dada is on an eight-game hitting streak and Curtis Granderson has five hits in this series. The Mets pitching staff has an ERA of 3.56. Taking the mound is Jacob deGrom, who is 0-2 with a 2.42 ERA and has 25 strikeouts in 26 innings. This will be deGrom’s first career game against the Cubs.
USA TODAY Sports
The Cubs have lost six of their last 11 games, but have outscored the Mets 7-5 in this series. Don’t expect the Cubs offense to last much longer, as they’ve scored three or less runs in seven of their last 11 games. In fact, the Cubs have gone 32 games this season of scoring three or less runs. Starlin Castro had three RBI in Tuesday’s win and Emilio Bonifacio has gotten on base at least once in six of his last 10 games. Travis Wood gets the ball, and he’s 5-5 with a 5.15 ERA and has 58 strikeouts in 64.2 innings. Wood is 2-0 with a 2.92 ERA in four career starts against the Cubs.
The Mets are 4-0 in their last 4 during game 3 of a series and 8-2 in their last 10 road games vs. a team with a losing home record. The Cubs are 5-14 in Wood's last 19 starts with 5 days of rest and 10-22 in Wood's last 32 home starts.
Taking a shot in the dark here, but I like the Mets and the plus money. The Cubs are going to fall apart eventually and Wood doesn't win many games when he takes the mound. The value is in the Mets.
