The Los Angeles Angels hope to close their road series at Minute Maid Park with a victory over the Houston Astros.
As I've said before, the Angels have to avoid losing streaks especially when the AL West leading Athletics are playing well. That hasn't been the case with Los Angeles dropping four in a row before getting back in the win column with a 4-0 decision over the Astros on Wednesday. The offense didn't crush the ball but with Garrett Richards bringing his 'A' game there wasn't much scoring needed. Richards tossed a four hit shutout over eight frames while four players drove in runs and four scored. Tyler Skaggs will be on the bump to close out their series with Houston on Thursday. Skaggs is looking for consistency going forward as he throws well for a game or two and then gets hit hard.

The Astros were quiet for the majority of the early going before making a whole lot of noise in winning eight of ten where both the arms and bats were contributing. The hot streak took a night off in Wednesday's defeat where the offense stalled and starter Jake Cosart's solid start went for naught. Cosart absorbed the loss with three runs plated on on eight hits through 6.2 innings while striking out eight. The bats managed just four hits and never really threatened Richards. Brad Peacock toes the rubber in the final game of their weekday set with the Angels on Thursday. Peacock is hoping to build on consecutive victories where he gave up three runs on eleven hits over 12.2 frames.
Both hurlers are capable of winning but also tend to have games where they are hit hard. I favor Skaggs but I say no thanks when I see the chalk...
