The Miami Marlins look to close in on the top spot in the NL East with another win at the Tampa Bay Rays.
Miami has generally struggled away from home but I'm sure Tampa Bay would disagree with the Fish beating the Rays for the third straight time by a 5-4 count on Wednesday. The bats have been rather quiet the past few weeks but came up big in support of Tom Koehler who was charged with three runs in five frames before Steve Cishek got out of a bases loaded jam in the 9th with a run scored to preserve the win. The Marlins ten hit attack was led by Donovan Solano who slammed a three run bomb. The Marlins give Thursday's start to Justin Turner who faces Tampa Bay for the first time. Turner has been struggling with two quality starts in seven starts where he has gone 1-3 with a 5.89 ERA.

Not much can be said about the Rays current situation as the team simply isn't scoring runs right now. Thursday's defeat has Tampa Bay looking at a nine game slide and a spot in the American League East basement as a result. David Price hasn't pitched well or had good fortune in 2014 and both trends continued Wednesday with four of the five runs plated being unearned through 7.1 innings pitched. The offense had plenty of traffic on the bases with nine hits and six free passes. Ben Zobrist homered and drove in two while Evan Longoria went solo. Tampa Bay turns to Jake Odorizzi to break the team's losing streak in the series finale' against the Marlins Thursday. On the season Odorizzi is 2-5 with a 5.13 ERA covering eleven outings.
Odorizzi hasn't done much to be favored and Turner hasn't done enough not to be a dog. The numbers say over but Tampa Bay is just awful at the plate so use caution or look elsewhere...
