The Miami Marlins are tied for first place in the NL East as they have been one of the biggest surprises this season. The Marlins are 10-17 on the road, 6-4 in their last 10 games, and they have won four games in a row. As a team the Marlins are hitting .260 with Giancarlo Stanton hitting .314, Casey McGehee hitting .298, and Marcell Ozuna hitting .274. The Marlins pitching staff has an ERA of 3.70 with the starters at 3.61 and the bullpen at 3.88. For Friday’s game the Marlins start Nathan Eovaldi who has won his last two decisions. For the season Eovaldi has allowed 74 hits and 27 earned runs while striking out 61 over 75 innings for a 4-2 record and a 3.24 ERA.
Chicago is 5-1 in their last six home games, 3-7 as a favorite, and 5-2 in Hammel’s last seven starts against a team with a winning record. Miami is 6-2 as an underdog, 2-5 in game one of a series, and 1-4 in Eovaldi’s last five road starts.
The Cubs are favored here with their recent strong play and with Hammel on the hill but the Marlins are still the better team and getting them as a dog is the play.
