The Houston Astros square off with the Minnesota Twins at Target Field in Friday night action.
Houston is improved at least so far but we'll see if they continue to be competitive going forward. I belive the bats are better but it's been their pitching that has taken over as the strong point of the team. That wasn't the case in an 8-5 victory over the Angels on Thursday with Brad Peacock allowing three runs in five frames before Paul Clemens gave up a pair in the 9th. That was good enough with George Springer driving in a trio of runs while Jose Altuve knocked in two more. The Astros give Friday's start to left hander Dallas Keuchel who faces Minnesota for the first time. Keuchel is one reason Houston has been competitive with his 6-3 record and 2.70 ERA in eleven outings.

I keep waiting for Minnesota to fade in to the sunset but to their credit they are hanging tough in the American League Central. Somettimes the pitching carries the team and sometimes its their scoring that leads the way. It was all offense Thursday but not enough of it in an 8-5 loss to visiting Milwaukee. Starter Kevin Correia was charged with five runs on ten hits including a pair of homers in five innings. The bats produced nine hits and four bases on balls with Oswaldo Arcia clubbing a grand slam for an early 4-0 lead. A resurgent Phil Hughes looks to continue his hot pitching when he faces the dangerous Astros. Hughes has gone 6-1 with a 3.12 ERA while the Twins are 9-2 in his starts.
I think Houston is playing better right now but the combination of the Twins offense and Phil Hughes has been tough to go against...
