The Kansas City Royals are a disappointment thus far this season and they didn’t do anything to change that on Friday taking a loss to the Yankees. Alex Gordon had two hits and Billy Butler and Nirichika Aoki had hits as the Royals scored two runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Jeremy Guthrie allowed six hits and four runs while striking out two over 7.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 2-6 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Royals start Danny Duffy who is coming off of a win in his last start. For the season Duffy has allowed 28 hits and 14 earned runs while striking out 29 over 41.1 innings for a 3-5 record and a 3.05 ERA.

The New York Yankees are still competing in the AL East as they picked up the win on Friday in Kansas City. Brett Gardener had two hits and Jacoby Ellsbury and Mark Teixeira each had hits as the Yankees scored four runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Chase Whitley allowed five hits and two earned runs while striking out three over 7.0 innings to get the win and go to 1-0 for the season and David Robertson earned his 14th save. For Saturday’s game the Yankees start David Phelps who has won hos last three starts. For the season Phelps has allowed 46 hits and 21 earned runs while striking out 42 over 46 innings for a 1-3 record and a 4.11 ERA.
Kansas City is 1-5 in their last six home games, 23-11 in their last 34 home games against a team with a winning record, and 10-4 in Duffy’s last 14 starts. New York is 5-1 in their last six road games, 1-5 in their last six games, and 1-5 in Phelps’ last six starts. New York has won five in a row in Kansas City.
