Petco Park and the San Diego Padres hope to be unpleasant hosts with the Washington Nationals.
Washington had been playing well at home ove the past week or so leading many to believe the Nationals are going to make move in the National League East. I'll wait and see what happens on their west coast road swing before I make a call. The Nats survived their first test in a convincing 6-0 decision at San Diego on Friday. Tanner Roark finally received some support and didn't waste it with eight scoreless innings and eleven K's. Anthony Rendon hammered a two run homer and Nate McLouth singled in two more. Washington is scheduled to send Blake Treinen to the hill in game two of their series at San Diego. Treinen is 0-2 in two starts with a 1.69 ERA over 10.2 innings.

San Diego probably has dreams of winning the National League West or capturing a Wild Card berth but in my view a finish anywhere close would be a success given their difficulties scoring runs. Scoring continued to be an issue Friday and the work on the mound didn't help with Tyson Ross allowing all six runs (five earned) on five hits through 5.1 innings of work. That was far to much for the Padres offense to deal with with just three hits to lean on. San Diego didn't receive a walk and have recorded four hits in two games. San Diego is hoping Andrew Cashner is 100% healthy in his return from the disabled list with elbow problems. Cashner was 2-5 with a 2.35 ERA over 57.1 innings before getting hurt.
Treinen doesn't have a track record for me to look at and Cashner is fresh off the DL so I have nothing to go on from a pitching stand point. The Padres just aren't hitting right now so it's the plus money or nothing although my gut says watch out...
