The Tampa Bay Rays shoot for another win over the Seattle Mariners at Tropicana Field on Saturday.
Seattle has been a unexpectedly solid team thus far and whether they can keep it going is the question because there isn't a history of success. The Mariners passed by the Angels for second in the American League West on the strength of a five game winning streak which came to an end in a 4-0 loss at Tampa Bay Friday. The bats were silent on only five hits while striking out 14 times which meant the pitching was on their own. Starter Chris Young gave up three runs on seven hits and the winning streak was over. Left hander Roenis Elias gets the nod versus Tampa Bay on Saturday. Elias can be a bit up and down but was brilliant last time out when he tossed a complete game three hit shutout in beating Detroit 4-0.

Tampa Bay was labeled as a challenger in the American League East and might still be but their offense has been on the skids from day one. The Rays are buried in the basement of the division after not winning for weeks before knocking off visiting Seattle in the series opener. The Rays finally broke in to the win column with a strong perfomance on the mound from Erik Bedard who tossed six scoreless frames to get the win. The offense received RBI's from three different players but left plenty of runs on the field after totaling ten hits and eight walks. Tampa Bay charges Alex Cobb with controlling the Mariners attack in game two of their series. Since coming off the disabled list Cobb has gone 0-2 with a 4.58 ERA in three outings.
As I mentioned Roenis is not real consistent and Cobb is the better hurler but the price is steep for a team that has won once in weeks. I think the Rays have a great chance to win but until they turn things around I would rather take the plus money or avoid this game...
