The Tampa Bay Rays and the Seattle Mariners face off on Sunday for game three of their weekend series.
The Tampa Bay Rays ended their 10 game losing streak with a win over the Mariners on Friday but they were unable to follow it up on Saturday taking the loss. Evan Longoria and James Loney each hit home runs and Desmond Jennings was among those getting hits as the Rays scored four runs on five hits. Starting pitcher Alex Cobb had a tough afternoon allowing 10 hits and seven runs while striking out two over 4.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 1-4 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Rays start Chris Archer who has a loss and two no decisions in his last three starts. For the season Archer has allowed 69 hits and 29 earned runs while striking out 67 over 70 innings for a 3-3 record and a 3.73 ERA.

The Seattle Mariners had a rough go of it on Friday but they bounced back on Saturday getting the road win. Cole Gillespie hit a home run and Endy Chavez, Dustin Ackley, and Willie Bloomquist each had two hits as the Mariners scored seven runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Roenis Elias allowed five hits and four runs while striking out five over 7.2 innings to get the win and go to 5-4 for the season and Fernando Rodney earned hos 17th save. For Sunday’s game the Mariners start Felix Hernandez who has won his last five starts. For the season Hernandez has allowed 78 hits and 26 earned runs while striking out 91 over 91 innings for an 8-1 record and a 2.57 ERA.
Tampa Bay is 2-9 at home against a team with a winning record, 5-3 in their last eight home games, and 8-2 in Archer’s last 10 home starts. Seattle is 6-1 in their last seven games, 6-2 in their last eight road games, and 6-2 in Hernandez’s last eight road starts. Seattle is 6-16 in their last 22 games in Tampa Bay.
Even with two strong arms going the total looks a little too aggressive on the low side and I will take the over. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
