The Atlanta Braves look to stay atop the NL East with a road win versus the Colorado Rockies.

When the season was young Atlanta looked like one of the best teams in the game but they have been a streaky team that look very good or very bad at times. Right now it's been more of the latter with defeats in four of five following a 6-5 loss at Arizona on Sunday. Aaron Harang tossed a winnable game with three runs plated over six frames but that was a losing effort with Luis Avilan and David Hale giving up three more. Justin Upton, Freddie Freeman and Ramiro Pena clubbed homers but the offense couldn't overcome the bullpen woes. Atlanta looks to Gavin Floyd to control the bats of Colorado at Coors Field on Monday. On the season Floyd has gone 0-2 with a 2.80 ERA in six outings.

Colorado looked like a challenger in the National League West a few short weeks ago but fast forward to the present and things aren't looking so rosy. After falling to the visiting Dodgers 2-1 in a rain shortened contest for their ninth loss in ten contests. In this stretch the offense hasn't been as strong as we have grown accustomed to and the pitching hasn't been able to win on their own merits. Jorge De La Rosa took the loss for back to back home defeats for a pitcher that has been nearly unbeatable at home. The bats mustered just three hits against Clayton Kershaw with Troy Tulowitzki slamming home run #17. The Rockies give rookie right hander Christian Bergman his first career start against the Braves in the series opener Monday.

I know the Rockies are slumping with a rookie going on the mound but this is just the type of game Atlanta loses. I'm taking them as a pick but I seldom bet this team because they are nothing special in my view...
