Safeco Field and the Seattle Mariners host the New York Yankees in a Tuesday night battle.
The Yankees haven't been playing well and that combined with Toronto doing nothing but win has dropped the Bronx Bombers to third in the National League East. Following a 2-1 loss at Kansas City on Sunday gave the New Yorkers defeats in seven of ten where the arms and bats have both been struggling. Hiroki Kuroda tossed a winnable game with both runs plated on five hits and a pair of base on ball through seven innings but didn't get any support in falling to 4-4. The bats posted eight hits and walked twice with Ichiro Suzuki singling in Yangervis Solarte with the only run. Masahiro Tanaka toes the rubber Tuesday in his first career match up with Seattle. Tanaka has been an exceptional addition for the Yankees with 9-1 record and 2.02 ERA.

Seattle and hot streaks have not been mentioned in the same sentence in season's past but the Mariners have been something of a different animal in 2014 thus far. The pitching has been strong and the hitting consistent and that has led to wins in eight of nine. The M's received great pitching and just enough hitting in a 3-0 victory over Tampa Bay on Monday. Erasmo Ramirez gave up four hits and five BB and somehow no runs with four relievers putting up zeros. Robinson Cano struck the big blow with a two run double while Stefen Romero singled in another during a three run third. Hisashi Iwakuma is scheduled to face the Yankees in the series opener on Tuesday. Iwakuma is 4-2 with a 2.66 ERA in seven outings covering 50.2 innings.
I am seeing Vidal Nuno as the starter with the Yanks rain out in Kansas City Monday so I'm looking at Iwakuma on the mound with an edge to Seattle at the plate as well...
