The Miami Marlins and Texas Rangers will take the field Tuesday to begin a short two-game series.
The Marlins have won five of their last seven games, but remain on the road where they’re 11-19. The Marlins offense has struggled a bit, scoring three or less runs in six of their last 10 games. However, the Marlins pitching staff has been solid, and they’re 23-2 when allowing three or less runs this season. Giancarlo Stanton has scored eight runs in his last 10 games and Casey McGehee has nine hits in his last five games. Tom Koehler gets the nod, and he’s 5-5 with a 3.33 ERA and has 49 strikeouts in 73 innings. This will be Koehler’s first career game against the Rangers.

The Rangers have lost five of their last seven games and are a game below a .500 record. As has been the case for much of the season their pitching staff has killed them, as the Rangers have allowed four or more runs in nine of their last 11 games. The Rangers have an ERA of 4.39 overall. Offensively, Alex Rios has 12 hits in his last six games and Adrian Beltre has two hits in each of his last three games. Colby Lewis gets the nod, and he’s 4-4 with a 5.77 ERA and has 46 strikeouts in 53 innings. This will be Lewis’ first career game against the Marlins.
The Marlins are 10-1 in their last 11 interleague games as an underdog and 8-2 in Koehler's last 10 starts vs. a team with a losing record. The Rangers are 4-1 in their last 5 interleague games as a favorite and 1-4 in Lewis' last 5 starts vs. National League East. The Marlins are 2-5 in the last 7 meetings.
It's hard to back the Rangers with the way they've been playing. Meanwhile, the Marlins have had a day off and are playing much better, especially with Koehler on the mound.
