The Cincinnati Reds and the Los Angeles Dodgers face off in Cincinnati on Thursday as they close out their series.
The Cincinnati Reds are getting healthy again and they looked al lot like the playoff team they were last year as they beat the Dodgers on Wednesday. Jay Bruce had two hits including a home run, Brandon Phillips had two hits, and Joey Votto and Billy Hamilton each had hits as the Reds scored five runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Johnny Cueto allowed three hits and struck out 12 over 6.0 scoreless innings to get the win and go to 6-5 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Reds start Alfredo Simon who has win four of his last five starts. For the season Simon has allowed 64 hits and 26 earned runs while striking out 45 over 74.1 innings for a 8-3 record and a 3.15 ERA.

The Los Angeles Dodgers continue to chase the Giants in the NL West but they didn’t help their cause on Wednesday losing to the Reds. Dee Gordon, Adrian Gonzalez, and Andre Ethier each had hits as the Dodgers failed to score on five hits. Starting pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu allowed six hits and four runs while striking out five over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 7-3 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Dodgers start Zack Greinke who has a no decision and a loss in his last two starts. For the season Greinke has allowed 76 hits and 23 earned runs while striking out 89 over 79 innings for a 8-2 record and a 2.62 ERA.
Cincinnati is 3-5 in their last seven games, 1-4 against the NL West, and 8-2 in Simon’s last 10 starts. Los Angeles is 5-2 in their last seven road games, Los Angeles is 5-2 in their last seven road games, 35-16 as a road favorite, and 25-10 in Greinke’s last 35 road starts. Los Angeles is 4-2 in the last six meetings of these two.
The Reds are a pretty big dog here but I like the value with Simon and I will take Cincinnati and the odds.
