The Houston Astros and the Arizona Diamondbacks close out their four game home and home series on Thursday in Houston.
The Houston Astros continued their improving play on Wednesday as they dominated the Diamondbacks. Chris Carter hit two home runs and George Springer, Alex Presley, and Jonathan VIllar each had two hits as the Astros scored five runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Dallas Keuchel alloed four hits and a run while striking out five over 8.0 innings to get the win and go to 8-3 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Astros start Scott Feldman who has lost three of his last four starts. For the season Feldman has allowed 60 hits and 25 earned runs while striking out 27 over 54.2 innings for a 3-4 record and a 4.12 ERA.

The Arizona Diamondbacks simply had no answers on Wednesday as they fell to the Astros in Houston. Aaron Hill hit a home run and Paul Goldschmidt and Chris Owings each had hits as the Diamondbacks scored one run on four hits. Starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy allowed eight hits and five earned runs while striking out four over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 1-9 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Diamondbacks start Wade Miley who has lost his last three decisions. For the season Miley has allowed 86 hits 45 earned runs while striking out 77 over 88.2 innings for a 3-6 record and a 4.57 ERA.
Houston is 23-49 in their last 72 home games, 18-44 as an underdog, and 2-6 in Feldman’s last eight starts. Arizona is 5-2 in their last seven road games, 9-5 in their last 14 interleague games, and 1-4 in Miley’s last five starts. Arizona is 21-6 in the last 27 meetings of these two.
I look for Houston to continue their strong play and to get the win here.
