The New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners finish off their weekday series at Safeco Field Wednesday.
The Yankees sat atop the American League East several weeks ago but have had problems scoring and stopping opponents from scoring since then which has them sitting in third. Everything fell in to place for the Bronx Bombers on Wednesday with Masahiro Tanaka removing all doubts that he is the real deal in a complete game 4-2 victory at Seattle. Tanaka had a shutout going before allowing a two run jack in the 9th. The bats totaled ten hits and a trio of BB with Mark Texiera leading the way with a three run Bomb. The Yankees end their series at Seattle with Chase Whitley on the bump who makes his 6th start. Whitley is 1-0 with a 2.42 ERA in 26 innings.

Seattle is the hottest team in the American League West which mght surprise some people. The Mariners are right on the tail of Oakland with terrific pitching and enough offense to make the rest of the division worry. They didn't get much offense going against Yankees star hurler Masahiro Tanaka with only six hits and a walk before Robinson Cano erased the goose egg with a two run homer in the 9th against his former team. Chris Young probably threw better then the numbers say with a three run homer making the stats look bad. Young was charged with all four runs on seven hits through five innings. Left hander Roenis Elias faces the Yankees for the second time this season. Elias won the first match up 4-2 with both runs plated over seven frames while striking out ten.
I like what I have seen from Elias who has beaten the Yankees but he has been a little bit all or nothing guy. I'll back the home team for now but I don't have a feel for this one...
