The Texas Rangers head to Safeco Field on Friday to open a series with the Seattle Mariners.
Right now the Rangers are on the outside looking in at the American League West race after dropping four of five. They do come in off of a 6-0 decision against the Marlins where both the pitching and hitting were at their best. Ace Yu Darvish was in top form with a six hit complete game performance where he struck out ten. The bats made sure it wasn't a wated effort with an eleven hit attack that received two hits and four RBI's from Shin-Soo Choo. Nick Tepesch gets the call to the mound in the series opener at Seattle Friday. Tepesch has struggled in five starts with a 2-2 record and 4.91 ERA.
USA TODAY Sports
Over the last two weeks or so the Mariners were the hottest team in the American League West but after losing to the Yankees on Thursday Seattle has lost three in a row and are desperate to prevent a losing streak. The M's fell to the Bronx Bombers 6-3 with Roenis Elias getting hit hard early. Elias was charged with all six runs on six hits and four bases on balls before hitting the showers after 3.1 innings. The bullpen gave the offense a chance with four relivers tossing shutout ball but the bats couldn't come back. The bats manged seven hits with Logan Morrison leading the way with a homer and two RBI's. Felix Hernandez shoots for his 9th win when he faces the visiting Rangers on Friday. Hernandez is 8-1 with a 2.39 ERA in 14 outings.
I would normally be all over Hernandez but the Rangers have done well against him and Tepesch has thrown well against Seattle. I'm not playing this so take this for what it's worth...
