The Detroit Tigers and the Minnesota Twins face off on Saturday in Detroit in game two of their series.
The Detroit Tigers have struggled of late and their struggles continued as they fell to the Twins on Friday. Alex Avila had two hits and Miguel Cabrera and J.D. Martinez each had hits as the Tigers failed to score on six hits. Starting pitcher Drew Smyly allowed four hits and a run while striking out two over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 3-5 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Tigers start Anibal Sanchez who has three no decisions on his last three starts. For the season Sanchez has allowed 36 hits and 14 earned runs while striking out 53 over 56.1 innings for a 2-2 record and a 2.24 ERA.

The Minnesota Twins are a game under .500 but they are still just three games back in the AL Central following Friday’s win. Eduardo Escobar hit a home run and Joe Mauer and Kurt Suzuki each had hits as the Twins scored two runs on four hits. Starting pitcher Kyle Gibson allowed five hits and struck out three over 7.0 innings to get the win and go to 6-5 for the season and Glen Perkins earned his 17th save. For Saturday’s game the Twins start Samuel Deduno who is coming off of a loss in his last start. For the season Deduno has allowed 56 hits and 27 earned runs while striking out 38 over 54.2 innings for a 2-4 record and a 4.45 ERA.
Detroit is 2-7 in their last nine home games, 3-9 in their last 12 games, and 1-4 in Sanchez’s last five home starts. Minnesota is 4-1 in game two of a series and 2-5 in Deduno’s last seven starts against the AL Central.
The Tigers are a big favorite here and I a having trouble justifying playing them at this price but they are the play here if you must.
