The Atlanta Braves and the Los Angeles Angels face off on Sunday Night in Atlanta on ESPN’s Sunday Night baseball.
The Atlanta Braves fought back twice on Saturday but they were unable to see it through as they lost to the Angels in extra innings. Evan Gattis had three hits including a home run and Jason Heyward, B.J. Upton and Tommy La Stella had two hits as the Braves scored six runs on 15 hits. Starting pitcher Gavin Floyd allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out four over 6.1 innings to not factor in the decision as David Hale took the loss to fall to 2-1 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Braves start Mike Minor who has lost his last two decisions. For the season Minor has allowed 53 hits and 23 earned runs while striking out 43 over 48 innings for a 2-4 record and a 4.31 ERA.

The LA Angels let the Braves off the hook twice on Saturday before putting them away in extra innings and getting the win. Erick Aybar had four hits and Albert Pujols and Mike Trout each had three hits including home runs as the Angels scored 11 runs on 16 hits. Starting pitcher Garret Richards allowed four hits and struck out 10 over 6.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Fernando Salas got the win to go to 4-0 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Angels start Hector Santiago who is still looking for his first win this season. For the year Santiago has allowed 40 hits and 20 earned runs while striking out 39 over 43.1 innings for a 0-6 record and a 4.15 ERA.
Atlanta is 10-5 against a team with a winning record, 1-7 in their last eight interleague games, and 1-5 in Minor’s last six starts as a home favorite. Los Angeles is 11-3 in their last 14 interleague games, 6-2 in their last eight games, and 1-7 in Santiago’s last eight starts.
With the total set at 7.5 I like the over for the same reasons we saw on the field on Saturday, both of these teams can hit and come up with big hits in the clutch. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
