The Tampa Bay Rays tangle with the Houston Astros in the series rubber match at Minute Maid Park.

It's hard to believe Tampa Bay has the worse record in the game especially with a team that was penciled in as a threat in the American League East. The Rays saw a modest two game winning streak end in Saturday's 7-3 defeat at Houston to drop to 17 games below .500. Chris Archer lasted only three innings with six runs plated with a five in the 3rd doing him in. TB racked up ten hits but the lone bright spot was Evan Longoria who cracked a two run homer and RBI single. Tampa Bay sends lefty David Price to the mound to face the Astros in the final game of the series. Price has thrown the ball well in his last three outings but is 0-2 despite a 2.42 ERA.

Even though Houston has been playing better it wood be foolish to think this team will be a factor in the American League West. It would also be foolish not to acknowledge the Astros are much improved and are headed in the right direction. They took a positive step in Saturday's win with everything falling in to place. Jarred Cosart gave up all three runs on nine hits through seven innings of work to improve to 6-5. The Stros attack made that work with Matt Dominguez recording two hits and driving in three while Dexter Fowler drove in a pair. The Astros lean on Brad Peacock to control the Tampa Bay attack and secure the series win on Sunday. Peacock has logged quality starts in three of four and in those outings he has allowed four runs.

If you compare the credentials of both pitchers it's obvious Price is the far better option but given the Rays struggles the Astros are very tempting as a huge home dog. I'm not confident in Peacock but I'm not eating all this chalk either...
