The New York Yankees look to end their series with the Oakland Athletics on a positive note.
The Yankees fell from atop the American League East a few short weeks ago and have since regrouped and are on the backs of division leading Toronto. The work on the mound and at the plate have been on the same page during a recent hot streak although neither were strong in Saturday's 5-1 loss at Oakland. Hiroki Kuroda allowed four runs on five hits and a trio of BB over 4.2 innings. The offense struggled mightily with three hits and three walks which didn't pose a threat. Left hander Vidal Nuno is scheduled to be on the bump Sunday versus the Athletics. On the year Nuno is 1-2 with 4.97 ERA over ten outings.

Oakland is the team to beat in the American League West but they do struggle at times which leaves the door open for the rest of the division challengers to make a run at them. The Athletics threw their weight around in Saturday's vctory over the visiting Yankees with strong pitching and hitting carrying the day. Scott Kazmir continued to be a handful for opposing batters with an unearned run scored on three hits covering six innings of work. The offense did the rest with eight hits and four bases on balls with Eric Sogard driving in two and scoring once. Oakland turns to Jesse Chavez on the hill to control the Yankees offense in the series finale'. Chavez is coming in off a 4-1 loss to the Angels where he allowed two earned runs in six innings.
The Athletics are tough to handle when they pitch and hit as capable. Once again they are sizeable favorites and I'll back them but my gut tells me they will need some runs here...
