The Chicago Cubs are struggling once again as the building process continues and we saw it once again on Saturday as they had no answers in Philadelphia. Justin Ruggiano, Luis Valbuena, and Mike Olt each hit home runs as the Cubs scored four runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Edwin Jackson allowed eight hits and seven runs while striking out two over 4.2 innings to take the loss. For Sunday’s game the Cubs start Travis Wood who has won four of his last five decisions. For the season Wood has allowed 81 hits and 42 earned runs while striking out 63 over 76.1 innings for a 6-5 record and a 4.95 ERA.
Philadelphia is 5-9 in their last 14 games, 2-6 against a left-handed starter, and 5-2 in Burnett’s last seven home starts. Chicago is 6-2 against the NL East, 3-8 as an underdog, and 5-1 in Wood’s last six starts.
The Phillies just looked dominant on Saturday and when Burnett is on he can be tough but it is really just a lean to the Phillies here as neither of these teams have done anything well consistently.
