Chase Field and the Arizona Diamondbacks play host to the Milwaukee Brewers in Monday night action.
Milwaukee has been playing around .500 baseball over the past few weeks and that has been enough to hold on to their lead in the National League Central although they will need to do better as the season goes forward. The Brewers took one on the chin in a 13-4 pounding at the hands of visiting Cincinnati on Sunday with just about everything going wrong. The pitching was a nightmare with Marco Estrada charged with five runs in five frames with Rob Wooten allowing five more without recording an out. Jonathan Lucroy smacked a solo homer and Scooter Gennett doubled in two but the bats were quiet otherwise. The Brewers open with Wily Peralta on the bump in the first game of the series at Arizona. Peralta is only 6-5 on the season despite a 2.90 ERA as he doesn't get a lot of support.

Arizona has been putting together some strong efforts lately but they haven't been winning efforts and they need to be. The Diamondbacks finally put everything together in a 6-3 win at division rival Los Angeles on Sunday to snap a four game skid. Bronson Arroyo picked up the win with just a single run plated through five innings while the offense rode long balls off the bats of Paul Goldschmidt and Miguel Montero with an unearned run thrown in the mix. Brandon McCarthy draws Monday's start against visiting Milwaukee in game one of their series. McCarthy is looking to shake off some recent struggles that has seen him allow five runs in three of his last four outings.
I'm leaning to Milwaukee but it's not a safe bet because he doesn't get a whole lot of runs to work with. Having said that, Milwaukee as a small dog is how I'm going...
