The St Louis Cardinals look to continue their hot play against the visiting New York Mets.
At this point I would have to say the Mets are likely in a battle with Philadelphia to stay out of the National League East basement. The offense has struggled to score and the pitching has been too iffy to win with both units coming up short in a 6-2 defeat at St Louis in the series opener. Starter Jacob deGrom gave up all six runs on 12 hits and a pair of BB over 4.1 frames to fall to 0-4. The offense produced five hits and five walks with Curtis Granderson and Chris Young knocking in runs. Left hander Jon Niese takes the ball Tuesday looking to even their series at St Louis. Niese has been solid although he doesn't always win with a 3-3 record and 2.54 ERA.

The Cardinals started the season slow but as we all know they were not dead and are beginning to put things together which is bad news for the rest of the National League Central. Monday's win over the Mets was the 7th in eight contests where the arms and bats have been on the same page. Starter Carlos Martinez gave up in four innings with three relievers holding the Mets at bay the rest of the way. The Cards attack totaled 12 hits and a pair of bases on balls with Allen Craig and and Matt Adams recording a pair of hits and two RBI's each while Jon Jay scored three times. Michael Wacha toes the rubber in game two of the series with the visiting Mets on Tuesday. Wacha suffered a rare poor outing in a 6-3 loss at Tampa Bay with four runs scored in five innings.
I think if the Mets are going to steal one this is the one with Niese on the mound but it's no guarantee because New York might not score. I'll take a shot with the visitors but this might just be wishful thinking...
