The Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies face off on Wednesday afternoon in Atlanta in their NL East series.
The Atlanta Braves are out of first place in the NL East as they lost to the Phillies on Tuesday while the Nationals were winning. Jason Heyward had two hits and B.J. Upton and Freddie Freeman had hits as the Braves scored two runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Ervin Santana allowed eight hits and four runs while striking out five over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 5-4 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Braves start Aaron Harang who allowed just one run and picked up a win in his last start. For the season Harang has allowed 75 hits and 30 earned runs while striking out 79 over 84.1 innings for a 5-5 record and a 3.20 ERA.

The Philadelphia Phillies moved out of last place in the NL East by beating the Braves fro the second time in two nights. Ryan Howard hit a home run and Carlos Ruiz, Reid Brignac, and Cesar Hernandez each had two hits as the Phillies scored five runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Kyle Kendrick allowed six hits and two runs while striking out six over 7.0 innings to get the win and go to 3-6 for the season and Jonathan Papelbon earned his 16th save. For Wednesday’s game the Phillies start Roberto Hernandez who has lost his last four decisions. For the season Hernandez has allowed 67 hits and 32 earned runs while striking out 54 over 67.2 innings for a 2-5 record and a 4.26 ERA.
The Braves are 1-6 as a home favorite, 3-10 against a team with a losing record, and 5-2 in Harang’s last seven home starts. Philadelphia is 6-2 in their last eight games, 2-7 in their last nine road games, and 1-4 in Hernandez’s last five starts. Philadelphia is 3-5 in their last eight games in Atlanta.
The Braves have been lousy but look for them to get the win here in what should be a team effort.
