The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Milwaukee Brewers face off on Thursday at Chase Field as they close out their series.
The Arizona Diamondbacks let the game get away on Tuesday night but on Wednesday they won a close one beating the Brewers. Chris Owings had three hits and Paul Goldschmidt, Gerrardo Parra, and Martin Prado each had hits as the D-backs scored four runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Wade Miley allowed five hits and three runs while striking out eight over 7.2 innings for a no decision as Brad Ziegler got the win to raise his record to 3-1. For Thursday’s game the Diamondbacks start Chase Anderson who is coming off of his first career Major League loss. For the season Anderson has allowed 30 hits and 12 earned runs while striking out 26 over 33.2 innings for a 5-1 record and a 3.21 ERA.

The Milwaukee Brewers rallied to tie the game on Wednesday after being down three runs but they let it slip away losing in the bottom of the ninth inning. Khris Davis had two hits including a home run and Jonathan Lucroy and Carlos Gomez each had hits as the Brewers scored three runs on five hits. Starting pitcher Matt Garza allowed seven hits and three runs, two earned, while striking out four over 7.2 innings to not get a decision as Brandon Kintzler took the loss. For Thursday’s game Milwaukee starts Yovani Gallardo who has won two of his last three decisions. For the season Gallardo has allowed 77 hits and 33 earned runs while striking out 68 over 84.2 innings for a 4-4 record and a 3.51 ERA.
Arizona is 4-7 in their last 11 home games, 2-6 in their last eight games, and 5-1 in Anderson’s last six starts. Milwaukee is 4-1 in their last five road games, 17-35 in game four of a series, and 8-3 in Gallardo’s last 11 road starts. Milwaukee is 9-2 in Gallardo’s last 11 starts against Arizona.
This one looks like a toss up but given Gallardo’s history against Arizona I give him and the Brewers a slight edge here.
