The New York Yankees look to pick up a game on the divisin leading Blue Jays on Thursday.
Toronto certainly isn't the red hot squad that stormed to the top of the American League East a few weeks ago. The Blue Jays are still in first despite a recent slowdown that has seen them drop eight of eleven after a 7-3 loss at New York on Wednesday. Mark Buehrle gave the Jays a shot with three runs allowed over six frames before Chad Jenkins let it get out of hand with three runs score in 1/3 inning. The bats didn't help with seven hits that saw three players drive in runs and three score. Drew Hutchison takes the bump for the second time against the Yankees in 2014. Hutchison hopes to duplicate his last outing where he defeated Baltimore 4-0 on the road with seven scoreless innings.

The Yankees fell from atop the AL East early on but seemed to have regrouped and are pressing Toronto for the division lead. The Bronx Bombers have now won seven of eleven after Wednesday's decision over the visiting Jays. Starter Chase Whitley has looked like the real deal thus far and did once again Wednesday with a pair of runs scored on five hits through five innings to improve to 3-0. The offense was Brian McCann who clubbed a two run bomb and a bases loaded triple for five RBI's. David Phelps toes the rubber in Thursday's match up with the visiting Blue Jays. Phelps comes in off his best performance of 2014 with a two hit shutout over 6.2 frames of a 7-0 victory at Oakland.
I don't think we know what either hurler is going to do on a given day but I'll simply side with the hotter team even though I'm not thrilled about Phelps...
