The San Diego Padres and the Seattle Mariners face off on Thursday at PETCO Park as they closeout their interleague series.
The San Diego Padres didn’t get a lot of offense on Wednesday but they got enough to make it work for them as they beat the Mariners. Seth Smith, Everth Cabrera, and Chase Headly each had hits as the Padres scored two runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Andrew Cashner allowed seven hits, one run and struck out two over 7.0 innings to not get a decision as Joaquin Benoit got the win to go to 3-0 for the season and Hustin Street earned his 19th save. For Thursday’s game the Padres start Jesse Hahn who got his first Major League win in his last start. For the season Hahn has allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out 12 over 9.2 innings for a 1-1 record and a 3.72 ERA.

The Seattle Mariners looked like they were going to hold off the Padres on Wednesday but they were unable to hold on for the win. Brad Miller had two hits and Endy Chavez, Robinson Cano, and Logan Morrison all had hits as the Mariners scored one run on seven hits. Starting pitcher Felix Hernandez allowed three hits and a run while striking out 10 over 7.0 innings for a no decision as Charlie Furbush took the loss to fall to 0-4 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Mariners start Erasmo Ramirez who has struggled this season. For the season Ramirez has allowed 48 hits and 25 earned runs while striking out 37 over 42.2 innings for a 1-4 record and a 5.27 ERA.
San Diego is 4-7 in their last 11 interleague games, 3-8 in their last 11 games, and 0-5 as a favorite. Seattle is 2-6 in their last eight interleague road games, 1-4 following a loss, and 3-11 in Ramirez’s last 14 starts. Seattle is 16-8 in their last 24 games in San Diego.
This game looks like a toss up but I will give the Padres a very slight edge.
