The Washington Nationals and the Atlanta Braves face off on Friday in Washington for game one of their series.
The Washington Nationals dropped Thursday’s game to the Braves as they simply couldn’t get any offense going. Denard Span, Jayson Werth, and Danny Espinosa each had hits as the Nationsals failed to score on three hits. Starting pitcher Jordan Zimmerman allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out six over 7.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 5-4 for the season. For Friday’s game the Nationals start Stephen Strasburg who is coming off of a loss in his last start. For the season Strasburg has allowed 94 hits and 32 earned runs while striking out 113 over 94 innings for a 6-5 record and a 3.06 ERA.

The Atlanta Braves have struggled of late but they put it a in the rearview mirror on Thursday as they shut down and beat the Nationals. Freddie Freeman had three hits and Evan Gattis, Jason Heyward, and Chris Johnson each had two hits as the Braves scored three runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Gavin Floyd allowed just two hits and struck out six over 6.0 scoreless innings o get the win and go to 2-2 for the season and Craig Kimbrel earned his 21st save. For Friday’s game the Braves start Mike Minor who has four no decisions and two losses in his last six starts. For the season Minor has allowed 64 hits and 26 earned runs while striking out 49 over 53 innings for a 2-4 record and a 4.42 ERA.
Washington is 5-1 in their last six home games, 7-1 as a home favorite, and 14-6 in Strasburg’s last 20 starts as a favorite. Atlanta is 6-2 in their last eight road games against a right-handed starter, 4-9 as a road underdog, and 0-4 in Minor’s last four starts against the NL East. Atlanta is 11-3 in their last 14 games in Washington.
Strasburg has the big strikeout numbers but the Braves just have the Nationals number and at this price they are the play.
