The New York Mets shoot for consecutive victories in South Florida over the Miami Marlins.
The Mets are staring at the basement in the NL East with a lack of consistent scoring hurting the win column and the pitching which hasn't been all that bad. The offense continued to struggle Saturday but the work on the mound came through with a big performance in a 4-0 decision. Jacob deGrom was at his best with a five hit shutout over seven innings to get his first win. Lucas Duda paced the dcoring with a two run homer with Chris Young and David Wright rapping RBI singles. Jonathan Niese looks for support when he takes the mound at Miami on Sunday. Niese has racked up the quality starts but struggles to win because runs have been scarce and the pen has allowed runs.

Miami has generally scored plenty of runs in 2014 but lately the work on the mound and at the plate has been inconsistent and not on the same page. That trend continued Saturday with the pitching receiving no support from the offense in a loss to the Mets. Tom Koehler was a tough luck loser with a pair of runs scored on him through seven innings making him a loser. Chris Hatcher served up a two run homer in the 9th which essentially ended this with the offense mustering six hits and four bases on balls on the afternoon. Anthony DeSclafani makes his 4th career start versus the vising Mets in the final game of their series. DeSclafani is 1-1 with 5.60 ERA covering 17.2 innings of work.
DeSclafani doesn't have a big enough track record to make a judgement on but Niese has and he has been very good. The problem is the team does little to help him. I am backing the Mets here but who knows if they score or the pen shows up for Niese...
