TV: ESPN 2, FS-Wisconsin

The Milwaukee Brewers host the Washington Nationals in a battle of two first place clubs.

Washington took control of first in the National League East with consecutive victories over Atlanta and now the goal is to gain some separation. If the Nats get the pitching we saw in Sunday's 4-1 decision, separation will be easy to come by. Tanner Roark continued to pitch well with the lone run scored on four hits over 5.1 frames to improve to 7-4. The offense posted nine hits with three players knocking in runs with Anthony Rendon scoring twice. Left hander Gio Gonzalez takes the ball Monday for the second time since coming off the disabled list. Gonzalez is 3-4 in 2014 with a 4.85 ERA in ten outings.

Milwaukee was considered a challenger in the National League Central but I don't believe many people believed they would be leading the division at this point in the year. The Brewers continue to pile up the wins with Sunday's 6-5 victory at Coors Field giving the Brew Crew wins in eight of eleven. The bats were the key all weekend at Coors with the work ond the mound being barely good enough. Kyle Lohse allowed three runs on seven hits and a trio of BB in five frames with Will Smith and Francisco Rodriguez giving up runs in the 8th and 9th innings. Aramis Ramirez and Lyle Overbay slammed homers to pace a ten hit attack. Matt Garza toes the rubber in game one of the series with the visiting Nationals on Monday. Garza is 4-4 on the season with an ERA that hovers around four.

I'm not sure Gonzalez is 100% and that has me thinking Garza but he is hittable. I just think he is the better choice here with a pretty good offense behind him...
