The Seattle Mariners and the Boston Red Sox face off on Tuesday in Seattle for game two of their series.
The Seattle Mariners started slow on Monday but once they got rolling the rolled the Red Sox at Safeco. Logan Morrison had four hits including two home runs, Kyle Seager had three hits, and Robinson Cano and Endy Chavez each had two hits as the Mariners scored 12 runs on 14 hits. Starting pitcher Felix Hernandez allowed six hits and two runs while striking out six over 7.0 innings to get the win and go to 9-2 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Mariners start Erasmo Ramirez who has five no decisions and four losses in their last nine starts. For the season Ramirez has allowed 50 hits and 25 earned runs while striking out 40 over 48.2 innings for a 1-4 record and a 4.62 ERA.

The Boston Red Sox have struggled this season and they looked as bad as they have all year getting pounded in Seattle on Monday. Mike Napoli had two hits including a home run and Dustin Pedroia and David Ortiz each had two hits as the Red Sox scored three runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher John Lackey allowed seven hits and seven runs while striking out three over 3.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 8-5 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Red Sox start Jake Peavy who can’t seem to be able to buy a win. For the season Peavy has allowed 98 hits and 47 earned runs while striking out 71 over 93.2 innings for a 1-5 record and a 4.52 ERA.
Seattle is 4-1 in their last five games as an underdog, 5-2 in game two of a series, and 0-6 in Ramirez’s last six starts. Boston is 5-1 in their last six games as a favorite, 1-5 in their last six road games, and 0-5 in Peavy’s last five road starts. Boston is 6-1 in the last seven meetings of these two.
It is just tough for me to lay odds on a road favorite like Boston here who hasn’t shown me much and with Peavy who has shown me even less this season.
