The Los Angeles Dodgers look to make up ground in the standings with another win at Kansas City.
The Dodgers have been putting the pressure on San Fracisco in the National League West and if they continue to win the division lead could be all theirs. A 2-0 decision at Kansas City on Tuesday gave Los Angeles eight wins in ten contests with the pitching carrying much of the load. Clayton Kershaw has been on a tear with yet another dominating effort with a six hit shutout over eight frames. Andre Ethier and Adrian Gonzalez rapped run scoring singles but otherwise it was a quiet night at the plate. Los Angeles turns to Dan Haren on the mound to face Kansas City on Wednesday. Haren has done a good job in 2014 with a 7-4 record and 3.62 ERA.

The Royals managed to take the top spot in the American League Central from Detroit a short week ago but their stay wasn't a long one. The Royals have now dropped five of six following Tuesday's defeat with the offense struggling to score in this stretch. That trend continued Tuesday and it squandered some very solid pitching. Starter Danny Duffy allowed a single run on four hits and four free passes through six frames but that was a losing performance. Kelvin Herrera gave up the other run but it didn't matter with the offense mustering only six harmless singles. Kansas City is scheduled to start James Shields who is tasked with controlling the dangerous Dodgers offense. Shields is 8-3 on the season with a 3.70 ERA while the team is 11-5 in his outings.
I was leaning to Shields on the mound but Kansas City can't hit a beach ball right now and Shields might have to throw a complete game shutout and that still might not be enough so take this for what it's worth...
