The San Francisco Giants and the San Diego Padres face off on Wednesday in San Francisco for game three of their series of NL West teams.
The San Francisco Giants had a double digit lead in the National League West not all that long ago but they have watched it shrink to virtually nothing as they lost another game falling to the Padres on Tuesday. Buster Posey, Pablo Sandoval, and Brandon Crawford each had hits as the Giants scored two ruins on five hits. Starting pitcher Tim Hudson allowed nine hits and six runs, four of them earned, while striking out four over 5.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 7-4 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Giants start Tim Lincecum who has alternated wins and losses in his decisions this season. For the year Lincecum has allowed 87 hits and 45 earned runs while striking out 77 over 82.2 innings for a 5-5 record and a 4.90 ERA.
USA TODAY Sports
The San Diego Padres are having a rough season but they are taking care of business winning their first two games of their series in San Francisco. On Tuesday Tommy Medica hit a home run, Alexi Amarista had three hits, and Cameron Maybin and Seth Smith each had two hits as the Padres scored seven runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Jesse Hahn allowed four hits and two earned runs while striking out eight over 6.0 innings to get the win to go to 3-1 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Padres start Ian Kennedy who has lost his last two starts. For the season Kennedy has allowed 91 hits and 42 earned runs while striking out 103 over 97 innings for a 5-8 record and a 3.90 ERA.
San Francisco is 2-8 in their last 10 games, 0-5 in their last five home games, and 15-7 in Lincecum’s last 22 starts. San Diego is 5-1 against a right-handed starter, 2-6 in their last eight Wednesday games, and 4-0 in Kennedy’s last four starts against a team with a winning record. San Diego is 8-19 in their last 27 games in San Francisco.
The Giants have been awful of late but they seem to get the bats going for Lincecum and while I always see the better team as the better play, it is just a slight lean to the Giants at best.
