The Chicago Cubs and the Washington Nationals face off on Friday afternoon in Chicago as they play game two of their series.
The Chicago Cubs got out to an early lead on Thursday, lost it, but pulled it out in the end to win game one against the Nationals. Anthony Rizzo had three hits, Justin Ruggiano had two hits, Starlin Castro had a hit as the Cubs scored five runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Travis Wood allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out four over 6.2 innings to not get a decision as Neil Ramirez got the win to go to 1-1 for the season and Hector Rondon earned his ninth save. For Friday’s game the Cubs start Jason Hammel who has lost three of his last four starts. For the season Hammel has allowed 78 hits and 32 earned runs while striking out 91 over 96.1 innings for a 6-5 record and a 2.99 ERA.

The Washington Nationals fell behind early on Thursday but right after catching up they let the game slip away losing in Chicago. Denard Span and Wilson Ramos each had two hits and Jayson Werth and Adam LaRoche each had hits as the Nationals scored three runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Doug Fister allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out just one over 6.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Craig Stammen took the loss to fall to 0-3 for the season. For Friday’s game the Nationals start Tanner Roark who has won his last four starts. For the season Roark has allowed 81 hits and 29 earned runs while striking out 72 over 93.2 innings for a 7-4 record and a 2.79 ERA.
Chicago is 6-2in their last eight games as an underdog, 17-43 following a win, and 2-5 in Hammels last seven starts as an underdog. Washington is 2-7 in their last nine road games, 3-10 against the NL Central, and 7-3 in Roark’s last 10 starts as a favorite.
