The Oakland Athletics head to South Florida to battle the Miami Marlins in interleague action.
Oakland is winning and putting tons of pressure on the rest of the American League West which actually has a little bit of parity. The Athletics have been getting both the pitching and hitting on the same page with wins in seven of ten after outscoring the Mets 8-5 on Wednesday. Starter Brad Mills did a good job with three runs scored over 6.1 frames before Luke Gregerson gave up two more. The offense received homeruns and a pair of RBI's from Coco Crisp and Brandon Moss with Yoenis Cespedes knocking in three runs. The Athletics send Jesse Chavez to the hill for his second career start versus the Marlins. Chavez has been a solid member of the rotation with a 6-4 record and 2.71 ERA.

Miami is right in the middle of the National League East race but the arms and bats have not been getting the job done lately. The once formidable offense isn't putting up the big numbers so the pitching is often left to fend for themselves. That didn't happen in a 5-3, 14 inning loss at Philadelphia as Tom Koehler allowed two runs over seven frames with Chris Hatcher serving up a two run bomb to Chase Utley in the 14th. The offense played the power game with three homers with Giancarlo Stanton, Marcell Ozuna and Jarrod Saltalamacchia each going deep. Anthony Desclafani draws Friday's start for his first career outing versus the heavy hitting Athletics. In four 2014 outings Desclafani has gone 1-2 with a 7.59 ERA.
I like how the Marlins have competed over the first half of the season but the travel home after a long game to face Oakland is a tall task. I hate road chalk but I'm going with the visitors...
