The Cincinnati Reds are continuing to put their season together as they moved to two games over .500 with a win over the Giants on Thursday. Brandon Phillips had two hits including a home run, Jay Bruce had three hits, and Todd Frazier had two hits as the Reds scored three runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Mike Leake allowed four hits and a run while striking out 12 over 8.0 innings to get the win and raise his record to 6-6 for the season and Aroldis Chapman earned his 15th save. For Friday’s game the Reds start Johnny Cueto who has won three of his last four decisions. For the season Cueto has allowed 71 hits and 24 earned runs while striking out 119 over 116 innings for a 7-5 record and a 1.86 ERA.
San Francisco is 7-4 against the NL Central, 4-13 in their last 17 games, and 7-3 in Bumgarner’s last 10 starts. Cincinnati is 6-1 in their last seven games, 11-3 in their last 14 road games, and 1-6 in Cueto’s last seven starts as an underdog. Cincinnati has won seven in a row in San Francisco.
The Reds are playing the better baseball right now and getting Cueto as a dog just seems to be the best play here as the Giants are just free falling.
