The Seattle Mariners and the Cleveland Indians face off on Saturday at Safeco Field for game two of their series.
The Seattle Mariners continued their strong play this season as they knocked off the Indians on Friday. Kyle Seager had three hits, Endy Chavez had two hits including a home run, and Logan Morrison and Michael Saunders each had two hits as the Mariners scored three runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Chris Young allowed four hits and a run while striking out four over 5.0 innings to get the win and go to 7-4 for the season and Fernando Rodney earned his 22nd save. For Saturday’s game the Mariners start Roenis Elias who has won his last two starts. For the season Elias has allowed 83 hits and 41 earned runs while striking out 85 over 98.2 innings for a 7-5 record and a 3.74 ERA.

The Cleveland Indians tried to rally late on Friday but they fell short losing in Seattle. Michael Bourn had three hits, Jason Kipnis had two hits, and Lonnie Chisenhall had a hit as the Indians scored two runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Trevor Bauer allowed nine hits and three runs while striking out five over 6.1 innings tot take the loss and fall to 2-4 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Indians start Josh Tomlin who has lost his last three starts. For the season Tomlin has allowed 61 hits and 27 earned runs while striking out 47 over 55.1 innings for a 4-5 record and a 4.39 ERA.
Seattle is 7-1 in their last eight games, 4-1 following a win, and 4-1 in Elias’ last five starts. Cleveland is 1-6 in their last seven games, 7-20 as a road underdog, and 1-4 in Tomlin’s last five stats as an underdog. Cleveland is 1-7 in their last eight games in Seattle.
Cleveland looks to be free falling but I look for them to rally here behind Tomlin to get the win. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
