The Seattle Mariners and the Cleveland Indians close out their series on Sunday in Seattle.
The Seattle Mariners have been hot of late but they were cooled down on Saturday as they lost to the Indians. Kyle Seager had the lone it for the Mariners as Mike Zunino struck out three times and Robinson Cano and Michael Saunders struck out twice each as Seattle didn’t score a run. Starting pitcher Roenis Elias allowed six hits and five runs while striking out two over 6.0 innings tot take the loss and fall to 7-6 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Mariners start Felix Hernandez who has won six of his last seven decisions. For the season Hernandez has allowed 95 hits and 30 earned runs while striking out 128 over 120.1 innings for a 9-2 record and a 2.24 ERA.

The Cleveland Indians have been slumping of late but they didn’t show any signs of it on Saturday beating the Mariners. Mike Aviles had two hits, Yan Gomes hit a home run, and Michael Brantley and Carlos Santana were among those Indians getting hits as the Cleveland scored five runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Josh Tomlin allowed just one hit and struck out 11 for the complete game shutout to raise his record to 5-5 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Indians start T.J. House who doesn’t have a decision in his last three starts but the Indians won all three of those games. For the season House has allowed 35 hits in 27.2 innings for a 0-1 record and a 4.88 ERA.
Seattle is 6-2 in their last eight games, 7-3 against a left-handed starter, and 8-2 in Hernandez’s last 10 starts. Cleveland is 8-20 as a road underdog, 2-5 in their last seven games, and 1-4 against a team with a winning record. Cleveland is 2-6 in their last eight games in Seattle.
Hernandez is just too much this season and at home on a Sunday in a day game he should dominate so my play is the Mariners.
