The Minnesota Twins look to salvage the final game of their weekend set against the Texas Rangers.
Minnesota is trying afloat in the American League Central but it hasn't been easy as of late. The Twins have dropped five in a row with neither the arms or bats doing enough to win. That trend continued in a 5-0 loss at Texas on Saturday. Phil Hughes fell to 8-4 with all five runs plated on eleven hits over 5.1 innings. The offense simply couldn't touch Yu Darvish with only four hits and a base on balls to their credit while whiffing eleven times. Minnesota hands the ball to Kyle Gibson who is charged with taming the Rangers offense on Sunday. Gibson is coming in off of an 8-6 loss to the Angels where he gave up seven runs in two innings.

After losing eight in a row the Rangers have won consecutive contests after knocking off the Twins Saturday. The task is now stringing the wins together and getting themselves back in the American League West picture. The Rangers were in need of a big performance from ace Yu Darvish and he delivered with a four hit shutout over eight innings with ten strikeouts that upped his record to 8-4. The bats totaled eleven hits with Leonys Martin driving in a pair of runs while Adrian Beltre scored twice. A struggling Colby Lewis is scheduled to be on the bump in charge with controlling the Twins attack and logging the sweep. Lewis is 5-5 with a 5.94 ERA and 1.82 WHIP in 13 outings.
In the scope of things neither team is making me excited but in this match up I feel Gibson has the edge on the mound. Of course the Twins have to score which is no guarantee right now...
