The Kansas City Royals travel to Target Field to open a series with the Minnesota Twins Monday night.
Kansas City hasn't been playing well but have shown us the ability to make up large chunks of ground in the standings. The Royals would like to turn things around and head in to the second half of the season on a positive note. KC has won two of three after outlasting the Angels 5-4 on Sunday but just seven of eleven. Jeremy Guthrie was charged with all four runs but just two were earned on eight hits including a pair of homers over 6.1 frames. KC recorded eleven hits with Lorenzo Cain going 4-5 with a pair of RBI's. Kansas City gives Monday's series opening start to Danny Duffy who faces Minnesota for the first time in 2014. Duffy has been outstanding in his last three outings but is just 1-2 despite a 1.35 ERA.

Minnesota is in the same boat as many teams in that they are within striking distance of their respective divisions but need strong performances going forward. The Twins took a step in the right direction with a 3-2 victory at Texas to snap a five game slide. This one belonged to starter Kyle Gibson who allowed both Rangers runs on eight hits with no walks through eight innings pitched. The Twins totaled seven hits with Kendrys Morales doubling in pinch runner Sam Fuld with the game winner to help the visitors avoid getting swept. Yohan Pina makes his third career start and first ever against Kansas City. In two outings Pina gave up two runs against the White Sox and five versus the Angels.
I like the way Duffy has been throwing the ball but I don't have much to go on with Pina. That being said I'll go with what I know...
