The Philadelphia Phillies make the long trip to South Florida to squareoff with the Miami Marlins.
Philadelphia has had their share of problems scoring runs throughout 2014 and the situation hasn't gotten any better. The Phillies have dropped eight of ten where three runs seems to be a good night at the plate lately. The hitting woes continued following a 3-2 loss to the Braves on Sunday. Rookie David Buchanan was touched for all three runs over five frames on five hits and five walks to fall to 4-4 on the season. Marlon Byrd was the Philadelphia offense with a pair of long balls to give him 15 on the season. Philadelphia opens the series on the mound with AJ Burnett who has been throwing the ball well as of late. Over his last three appearances Burnett has gone 1-2 with a 2.62 ERA.

Miami was one of the top scoring teams in the game but not any longer as 3-4 runs seems to be a good effort at the plate lately. The offense and pitching has had a hand in losses in seven of ten after visiting Oakland completed a three game sweep with a 4-3 victory on Sunday. The loss went to rookie Andrew Heaney who fell to 0-3 despite pitching better then the numbers indicate. Heaney gave up all four runs in the 6th with a three run homer off the bat of Nate Freiman doing him in. The offense managed six hits with pinch hitter Marcell Ozuna clubbing his 14th while Jeff Baker connected on a sacrifice fly. Henderson Alvarez takes the ball in game one of the series with the visiting Philies. Alvarez has been the best pitcher in the Miami rotation with a 5-3 record and 2.32 ERA with the team going 11-5 in his starts.
If both pitchers continue to throw as they have this should be low coring and close. I am backing the Marlins at home where Alvarez seems to be at his best...
