The Minnesota Twins and the Kansas City Royals face off on Tuesday at Target Field for game two of their series.
The Minnesota Twins are in a tailspin and it continued on Monday as they lost to the Royals. Kurt Suzuki, Chris Parmalee, and Eduardo Nunez each had two hits as the twins scored just once on nine hits. Starting pitcher Yohan Pino allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out three over 5.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 0-2 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Twins start Ricky Nolasco who lost his last start after three no decisions. For the season Nolasco has allowed 125 hits and 61 earned runs while striking out 69 over 95.2 innings for a 4-6 record and a 5.74 ERA.

The Kansas City Royals took advantage of their chances on Monday as they beat the Twins in Minnesota. Salvador Perez had two hits including a home run and Mike Moustakas and Alcides Escobar each had two hits as the Royals scored six runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Danny Duffy allowed four hits and a run while striking out three over 5.2 innings to get the win and go to 5-7 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Royals start James Shields who has been the anchor of their pitching staff again this season. For the year Shields has allowed 120 hits and 47 earned runs while striking out 87 over 111.2 innings for an 8-3 record and a 3.79 ERA.
Minnesota is 4-2 in their last six home games, 1-7 in their last eight games, and 1-5 in Nolasco’s last six starts as an underdog. Kansas City is 28-10 as a road favorite, 3-5 as a favorite, and 13-3 in Shields’ last 16 starts as a road favorite. Kansas City is 13-5 in the last 18 meetings of these two.
