The suddenly hot Tampa Bay Rays shoot for consecutive victories in the Big Apple versus the New York Yankees.
It might sound odd to say the team with one of the worse records in the game is hot but I don't know how else I can say it after a 4-3, 12 inning win over the Yankees gave the Rays wins in five of six. Of course it wasn't easy with blown leads of 2-0 and 3-2 in the 9th. Chris Archer gave up two runs over seven frames but received a no decision whem Joel Peralta served up a game tying homer in the 9th. Matt Joyce and Kevin Kiermaier launched solo homers with Logan Forsythe rapping a run scoring single in the 12th. Left hander David Price looks to control the Yankees attack when he faces them for the 3rd time in 2014. Price has thrown the ball well in his last three starts where he has gone 2-1 with a 2.22 ERA.

New York has been in a bit of a tailspin with defeats in seven of nine which has cost them a few opportunities to pick up some ground on first place Toronto. The bats and arms have struggled to get on the same page in this stretch and on Monday it was the offense that let this one get away. Starter David Phelps tossed a winnable game but was touched for a pair of solo homers through 5.2 innings of work. Jose Ramirez absorbed the defeat with a 12th inning run plated but it was the bats that struggled throughout. Brett Gardner tripled in a run and scored on Derek Jeter's single with Brian Roberts blasting a solo bomb in the bottom of the 9th to send the game to extra innings. Veteran Hiroki Kuroda looks for consistency when he takes the mound against visiting Tampa Bay. Overall Kuroda has gone 5-5 with a 4.23 ERA over 16 outings.
I still don't have a ton of confidence in Tampa Bay or Price for that matter as a few wins doesn't turn a season around. However it is a start...
